We are looking for a VP of Engineering (VPE) to provide sound technical leadership in all aspects of our business. You will communicate with employees, stakeholders and customers to ensure our company’s technologies are used appropriately.
Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. We expect you to be well-versed in current technological trends such as machine learning. If you are also an excellent engineer, leader, and communicator, we’d like to meet you.
About OFE: We help teams in the dry bulk and tanker ocean transportation industry to optimize their ship chartering process. Founded in 2015, we quickly grew to a team of 25 teammates and attracted investment from top venture capital firms and famous individuals. We recently raised a $3.3M seed round to expand operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals
- Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage
- Help departments use technology profitably
- Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality and efficiency
- Organize Product Development Lifecycle through Agile principles
- Maintain and grow engineering staff
- Build quality assurance and data protection processes
- Monitor KPIs and IT budgets to assess technological performance
- Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
- Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors
Requirements
- Proven experience as a CTO, VP Engineering, or Senior Engineering Director role
- Knowledge of technological trends to build strategy
- Understanding of budgets and business-planning
- Ability to conduct technological analyses and research
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Leadership and organizational abilities
- Certified in Agile / Scrum methodologies
- Strong foundation in programming, algorithms, and software application design
- Experience with Python, NodeJS, Java, or C# is a plus
- Experience with MySql or any RDBMS is a plus
- Experience with Graph algorithms and Graph DBs is a plus
- Experience with NoSQL - Hadoop, Cassandra, MongoDB is a plus
- Experience in distributed systems, data processing and analytics is a plus
- BSc in Computer Science is required; MSc in Computer Science or other relevant graduate degree is a plus
